Feeling low about something? Discouraged/ upset? Or just…blaaah? You know, those times when you don’t really feel anything, but are not feeling super charged either?
Maybe you’re just going about life, doing things, solving problems, getting chores off your never-ending to-do lists.
Doesn’t matter where you are currently, or how you feel. You can get happy anytime, anywhere. At least I do. Because some years of practicing self-awareness have programmed me sometimes to just pause in my tracks, and just focus on something good.
It could be something simple…like just a regular cup of coffee. But when I am feeling cold, and want a warm, cosy feeling, holding that steaming cup in my hand just makes me feel so alive! At times I just stare at it and think how lucky I am to be having that. Especially if it is after I have read about some lesser fortunate people struggling somewhere.
Just holding that cup of coffee, and feeling that feeling of gratitude, lucky-ness (that’s not a word, I know ;), but feels right to use it here, hehhe), blessed, makes me forget my troubles and continue with my day feeling so much more super charged!
Like it happened with something else the other day.
First, a little flashback.
So I love baking, as you might have read from my posts before. And I just had this really huge retro measuring cup with marks on it for every 200g or so, and measuring everything, by estimating, pouring carefully, just drove me nuts. I had been thinking about buying a kitchen scale, but kept telling myself I didn’t really need it. It wasn’t that big a necessity, after all. But my husband said well, it’s just a few euros. Why don’t you just get it and see if it works? If not, we can be the digital pros (ahem ;)) and do digital second-hand selling through ebay or Facebook groups, loll.
So I said ok, well, but nothing fancy, ok? Let’s just get a simple one. So we ordered a normal digital one with 5kg weight. It measures solids and all kinds of liquids (water, milk, cream, etc.).
Ok, back to the present. Just the other day, I had to make an apple-pie cheesecake. Ever tried it? Delicious! Anyway, as I was saying. I was doing it, and there were just SOOOO many things to measure, as there always is, in a cheesecake. Biscuits, sugar, cream cheese, butter, cream, etc., etc. And I used the scale for the first time.
Oh my God! It was so amazing! It was so easy as I didn’t have to care about the weight of the bowl in which I was measuring. I could just measure something in a bowl, reset to zero, and measure the next one.
All of it got done in like less than 5 min! Saved me 30 mins to measure everything!
I was so super excited and delighted! I know, right, it’s something as simple as a kitchen scale. Probably every other kitchen has it. What’s the big deal?
The big deal is that it gave me something that I couldn’t have ever imagined. I didn’t realize just how much it would make my job easier, the freedom it would give me, and the time it would save me.
The big deal was that we had ordered something that was perfectly what I wanted and needed. That we had taken the right, thought-through decision. That the product was shipped perfectly, it was working, it was giving me benefits, and it was cheap, and small and light enough to tuck away somewhere. It was all perfect!
As I used it, I was just so grateful for it, that I thanked my husband a dozen times, thanked the Universe like a zillion times. Just said thank you in my heart throughout the time I was using the scale and baking.
It literally made my day. And for a long time afterwards, I went around happy and delighted and on top of the world.
On another occasion, I was quite sick and couldn’t get up to even sit at a desk, and badly had to finish a project. So I made use of a foldable laptop table made of bamboo that we had bought once. It has a cool vent to prevent the laptop from overheating, has adjustable sizes, a place to keep my coffee, and a separate place for my mousepad.
Not to mention, it’s environmentally friendly, and looks nice. They had different sizes and the one we chose is a bit bulky, but if you have to work on your bed for some reason (or to keep your laptop on your bed and watch movies, as we discovered later ;)), it’s perfect! I don’t normally use it, but that day, it was sooo handy, and I thanked my lucky stars that I had it, and it was soooo easy to do and finish my work without leaving my bed.
Again, not a big deal, maybe a ton of you have these things, but for me that day, it was a lifesaver! And all I needed to do was notice it, and feel super lucky and thankful that I had it. It put me in a good mood to do my work, and as I was working, slowly noticed the little details of it as I mentioned before. And I got happier and happier. Felt luckier and luckier, Soon, I felt so charged up and energized, that I could actually get off my bed and make a zillion more cups of coffee and tea 😉
So, from all these stories, what do you think is my instant boost?
Nope, not the gadgets I mentioned.
Yes!!! Gratitude, from the bottom of my heart! For how much my life was better and easier because of them.
So as you’re going about your day, if you’re feeling a bit down or low on energy, here’s what you can do too. Look around you, and see something that helps your life a little. That makes it easier, smoother, happier, more relaxed, less stressful.
It could be anything. Everyday small things, like a helpful kitchen scale or a cup of coffee, the sun, the fresh air, or even a book. Or my blog, hehhe 😉
Or it could be the big things. Your family, your friends, your work, your clients, your colleagues, your whole apartment and lifestyle.
Yes, could be your bank balance as well, but see a bank balance doesn’t always make us happy. It’s the things that we can do with it.
Whatever you notice, it’s really important to appreciate each aspect of it, and as you do, you will notice you feel better and better. Like maybe your phone. You can use it for calls, taking and sharing photos, staying connected, also for entertainment. Maybe it’s a nice color, handy, sturdy but light…so many aspects to it! Think about all the people who don’t have it. And you do! And it’s perfect for you! It’s your lifeline! Such a good feeling to notice and think about it, isn’t it?
So what do you have, right now, that you’re so grateful for, that feeling lucky about having it could energize you?
My FF thought* of the day: How you feel at any time depends on you, and solely on you. You choose your feeling by how you think. So if you want to feel enthusiastic about life and happy instantly, what are you waiting for? Wherever you are, just stop reading, look around you, find something that you truly appreciate, and get your instant energy dose and burst of happiness 🙂 Be PowerfullyYOU.
